After his death on January 21, 1945, Embrey’s memorial was arranged at Manila American Cemetery in Manila, Philippines in a field with white crosses with other American war soldiers who bravely served in WWII.
His family also arranged his cenotaph with the rest of the buried family in DeSoto, MS in Grays Creek Cemetery (ID: 105707184). His grave reads James Sidney Embrey S1c, July 2, 1925, January 21, 1945 and is placed below his parents, James E and Erma Scott’s graves. To honor James Sidney Embrey, Elizabeth Embrey (James’ younger sister) named her only son after him as James Sidney Forsythe.
As written in Embrey’s IDPF, he was buried at sea and his death was recorded on January 30, 1945. His parents were notified via bupers or telegram and told that his death was not from enemy action as his record had “killed as result of Accidental bomb explosion. Not misconduct.” as the cause of death.
